What can affect the cost of bi-fold doors?

Being aware of the various factors that can affect the cost of the bi-fold doors you’re specifying can help you to advise customers on the best options for their home and their budget.

Type of bi-folding door

The type of bi-fold door chosen by your customers can have an impact on the price. There are three main materials for bi-folding doors - uPVC bi-fold doors, wooden doors and aluminium bi-fold doors.

Aluminium bi-fold door prices can be higher than doors made with other materials -such as uPVC doors - but they offer the highest quality and security, so being able to communicate these benefits to your customers is important when specifying a bi-fold door.

Read more about aluminium bi-fold doors and their benefits in this guide.

System

The bi-fold door system chosen by your customers can also have an impact on price. At Origin, we provide two different bi-fold door systems:

  • OB-49 with sightlines of 110mm
  • OB-72 with sightlines of 154mm

Some systems are more expensive than others so understanding the costs of the systems your customers are looking for is important. For example, slimline bi-fold doors may carry a surcharge.

Door size

When working out the price for a bi-fold door or providing a quote for customers, the size of the doors can have an impact. The bigger the doors, the more aluminium profile and glass is required, so larger sizes mean higher costs.

Configuration

The size of the door will be dictated by the size of the aperture available and the bi-fold door system being installed. The aperture size will offer various available configurations. Plus, the more door panels required for the bi-fold door, the higher the cost. However, your customer may prefer more doors as they would be lighter.

There are also a number of opening options to be considered by your customers which can also have an impact on price.

Colours

Aluminium bi-folding doors are available in one of our RAL colour options. At Origin, our most popular colours (OB-49 & OB-72) are:

  • Anthracite Grey (7016M)
  • Hipca White (9910G)
  • Jet Black (9005M)
  • Slate Grey (7015M)
  • Black Grey (7021M)
  • Dual Colour of 9910G and 7016M out

The colour of the doors can affect the price. Popular colours will come in at a lower cost, but colours such as dual colour or special RAL options can be a little more expensive as they may incur a surcharge.
